Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson hit out at his teammates following their shambolic defeat at Wolves as Jurgen Klopp’s side continued their miserable Premier League campaign
Alisson has admitted that Liverpool need to “wake up” and show more “fight” after they suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds were thrashed at Molineux thanks to an own-goal from Joel Matip, Craig Dawson’s strike and Ruben Neves’ second-half finish. It was a dismal performance from Jurgen Klopp’s side, who were second best in every department and therefore succumbed to their third Premier League loss on the bounce.
That’s the first time Liverpool have achieved that feat since 2012, and the Reds will be keen to end that rut as soon as possible following a dismal showing in the West Midlands. The result leaves Klopp’s men in 10th as the Reds lose further ground in the race for a Champions League place next season.
After the full-time whistle, Alisson spoke to the press about the game and the Reds’ recent form. The Brazilian shot-stopper claimed that Liverpool need to stop making mistakes and believes they were punished for sloppy errors throughout their clash at Wolves, who have now moved up to 15th.
Alisson said: “Sometimes in football you make mistakes and you get punished. We did that again and again. Two mistakes, two goals at the beginning of the game. We are making things hard for ourselves. After that we did a great second half. We could have done better on the third goal but it is a good moment from the opponent.

“I don’t know what we need to happen to us to wake up. We come here, say we have to believe in ourselves but we don’t act like that on the pitch or deserve that. Again, we have to put this behind us and take strength from ourselves and families to bounce back.
“I think everyone believes they are capable of doing these things it is that you have to fight for that. A game of 90+ minutes you have to do it consistently for the whole game. We showed today you can get punished for 15 minutes and that’s what happened to us. We have the same players who achieved so many great things at this club and we are not performing well. It’s difficult to say why.
“I’m not saying I don’t trust we can’t bounce back. I’m just so disappointed about tonight’s game. We have to keep working.”

He added: “We are not in the situation where we are confident, that confident to come back, but we tried. We did a good second half and then we concede again: you don’t score and you concede again, so it’s completely frustrating from my side.”
Liverpool’s shambolic defensive display was summed up inside the opening half an hour when Matip almost gifted Wolves a third goal. The 31-year-old had his pocket picked by Matheus Nunes, but the Portugal international fired his effort straight at Alisson once through on goal. Then Klopp was spotted seething at his defender in what surely has to be one of the worst performances of Matip’s Reds’ career since his move in 2018.
