Jürgen Klopp is confident Mohamed Salah will be back among the goals sooner rather than later as the Egyptian looks to equal a club landmark at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
The forward is in line to make his 200th league appearance for the Reds in the fixture – and, should he find the net, would match Gordon Hodgson’s record of 126 strikes, the most scored by any player in Anfield history during that number of games.
Salah has 17 goals and seven assist in 30 appearances so far this season – and Klopp is in no doubt he will enhance that tally further in the coming weeks.
The manager told his pre-match press conference: “It’s like strikers are, all of them – when it’s going well, it’s going well. In the other moments, when you have to go through these periods, I don’t think it is a massive difference.
“We spoke last week in the press conference about it, all the changes we made – and we had to make – up front. Each striker benefits from settled things, from patterns everybody knows about. That, for sure, was more of a problem than other stuff, but of course when you don’t score for a while it is a few things – you might not be on your 100 per cent confidence level, but the desire to do it grows every hour.
“That’s it and no problem with him scoring or breaking that record. It is a record to be broken. Mo broke a lot and hopefully he can do that with this as well.”
