Kyrie Irving has joined the Dallas Mavericks after the Brooklyn Nets traded him away on Sunday in a package involving Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, and some picks. The mercurial point guard left the Brooklyn Nets in a surprising move, considering that the team seemed to be on track for a championship run this season once Kevin Durant returned.
But now, with Kyrie Irving putting in a trade request and leaving, the future seems much bleaker for the Nets in the immediate term. Kevin Durant famously tried to push for a move away from the Nets during the offseason but didn’t end up doing so after a suitable trade could not be found for him. With Irving gone, though, teams are asking about KD and those that could make offers even before the coming trade deadline.
The Phoenix Suns have been named as the most committed suitor, they have wanted Durant for a long time. But they are far from the only ones, the Boston Celtics had shown serious interest during the summer. While they are still the best team in the NBA this season, the Celtics seem to want Kevin Durant if they can get him, at least if the latest reports can be believed.
Stephen A. Smith Says Kevin Durant Is On The Verge Of Being Moved
Stephen A. Smith isn’t the most reliable of NBA insiders, but he has his sources across the league. And there’s no question he has reached out to them to find out the next possible move for the Nets regarding Kevin Durant. And speaking on ESPN, he revealed that Durant could be on the move in a trade to the Celtics.
“By the way I’m hearing that he’s [Kevin Durant] on the verge of potentially being moved. Obviously we’ve all been speculating about that…that he may be moved. I’m hearing Boston is making some calls. Keep your eye on Jaylen Brown. Keep your eye on that.”
This would be a huge bombshell if it went through. Jaylen Brown is an All-Star this season, one of the best in the league, but he’s no Kevin Durant. If the Celtics can get him without giving up too many of their good players barring Brown, they would instantly become favorites for the NBA championship this season.
