Although James Gunn’s new DC slate has been the talk of the town, Constantine 2 has also been buzzing among fans. The Keanu Reeves starrer, released in 2005, has been deemed a cult-classic superhero film. Following an occult detective and an exorcist, John Constantine, the film revolves around a dark conspiracy that threatens the entire world. Followed by numerous claims, Deadline confirmed last September that Warner Bros. would develop a sequel for the 2005 film with Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence.

However, as the new co-CEO announced the new DC slate, rumors started that the studio canceled the Constantine sequel. However, a spokesperson from Warner Bros. debunked the rumors.
Constantine 2 Rumored to be Canceled
When James Gunn announced the first chapter of his new DC slate, rumors began that the studio had canceled Constantine 2. The rumors started after the insider KC Walsh replied to a tweet about the film. The insider claimed that the studio canceled the highly anticipated sequel.

KC Walsh also claimed that Warner Bros announced the sequel “in desperation” as they required something for DC “post-2023.” The news came as a shock to fans, who were hoping to get a sequel decades after the release of the original film. Keanu Reeves has also shared that he has been asking the studio to give him one more opportunity to portray the character.
Earlier, Deadline confirmed that the studio is moving ahead with Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves as the lead under Francis Lawrence’s direction. However, soon after announcing the sequel Warner Bros. rebranded DC Films as DC Studios and announced James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-CEOs of DC Studios.

The studio also claimed that the duo would work on the new DCU plan. However, their plan did not include anything about the Constantine sequel. Considering it, fans were also convinced that Warner Bros. has actually canceled the sequel. However, a Warner Bros. spokesperson has suggested otherwise.
Constantine Sequel is Still in Development
Followed by the rumors, a Warner Bros. spokesperson has said that the studio did not scrap Constantine 2. Fans were convinced that the sequel would not be moving ahead, considering that the co-CEO did not say anything about it while announcing his new DCU slate.
He mentioned the upcoming DC films, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Gunn also pointed out how he is planning to continue the DC films, like The Batman and Joker, under DC Elseworlds. But the director did not mention Keanu Reeves starrer Constantine 2.
Keanu Reeves to star in Constantine 2
Considering that he did not mention the Constantine sequel under his new DCU or DC Elseworlds, there could be a possibility the studio might be planning a standalone universe for the occult detective.
There were also rumors regarding the sequel featuring Swamp Thing. James Gunn has also announced a Swamp Thing movie, which could also introduce John Constantine to the new DCU, as the character was brought into the DC Comics world with Swamp Thing #37. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio yet.
The studio has also not confirmed the release date for Constantine 2.
