UFC fans worldwide can expect an action-packed few months as multiple champions, including Conor McGregor and Jon Jones, are set to return to the octagon. Joining the ranks of returning champions is the esteemed double champion, Henry Cejudo, who is slated to make his comeback in March. The flyweight and bantamweight champ has expressed his eagerness to get back in the ring on numerous occasions, although his opponent has not yet been confirmed by the promotion. In a recent Twitter video, ‘Triple C’ shared his thoughts on his much-anticipated return.
‘Triple C’ stated that he would probably fight against #1-ranked bantamweight Sean O’Malley or Aljamain Sterling in his comeback bout. Cejudo also uploaded a YouTube video where he talked about his plan for the UFC. ‘The Messenger’ made it clear that he is desperately looking forward to fighting with the current UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. Additionally, the 36-year-old stated that Islam Makhachev is definitely not the better fighter.
Henry Cejudo believes he makes a better opponent for Volkanovski than Makhachev
In the video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Cejudo explained his intentions behind the comeback. He said, “Alexander Volkanovski is a lot better than what I thought. It was defensively but am I getting that guy? Why are people dismissing me against Alexander Volkanovski?”
He continued, “okay he defended a couple of takedowns but guess what Islam not an Olympic champion, guess what Islam doesn’t have my striking, guess what he’s not faster than me, guess what yeah he is bigger than me but I’m a smaller target. This is the same reason people are super problematic with Alexander Volkanovski. It’s a simple fact that he’s short. He’s fun-sized.”
Henry Cejudo is the only UFC fighter who has won a gold Olympic medal and a UFC title. Hence, he claims that there are a lot of factors about him as a fighter that make him better than Islam Makhachev. The lightweight champ and Alexander Volkanovski came face-to-face at UFC 284.
The fight between the two was one of the greatest super fights in the history of the UFC. The bout was highly close. Even though Makhachev won, the world talked about Volkanovski for his great moves.
The future plans of ‘The Messenger’
In the video, Henry Cejudo makes it clear how he wants to lead his fighting career. He explained about how he wanted to make the match between him and Volkanovski come to fruition. ‘The Messenger’ says he wants to come back first and then give his all in the bout. By winning, he meant winning his belt back, and after that, he wanted to defend his belt. Eventually, he wants to make sure that he gets to fight ‘The Great’, not in the lightweight division but in the featherweight division.
