Real Madrid have opened talks with Eduardo Camavinga about extending his contract with the club, according to a new report, which suggests the inclusion of a mammoth release clause.
Camavinga has just joined up with the France squad for their internationals this month, having played a role in their run to the World Cup final in December.
His success on the international stage has echoed his club gkory with Real Madrid, as they have won LaLiga, the Champions League and the FIFA World Club Cup in the last 12 months.
The 20-year-old’s success has attracted attention from clubs including Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United.
Now, The Athletic report that Real Madrid want to lock down Camavinga to the club on a long-term basis, and ensure his status as a player with a potential €1bn (£874m) release clause which was also given to Eder Militao, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior last summer.
Real Madrid have reportedly entered talks to improve Eduardo Camavinga’s contract in Spain
The French midfielder was part of the team that made the World Cup final back in December
Camavinga joined Real Madrid in 2021, signing a six-year contract in the Spanish capital after his €31m (£27m) move from French club Rennes.
Since joining, he has impressed many around the Bernebeu, including manager Carlo Ancelotti, who called the player ‘untouchable’.
The Frenchman has found himself competiting for position at Real Madrid alongside long-standing legends of the game including Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
It is thought Camavinga’s new Real Madrid deal will include a release clause of a billion Euros
Last summer, Real Madrid sold Casemiro to Manchester United, and some thought the English giants might break open the bank again to secure Camavinga.
The new release clause would make that almost impossible, even with the new bidders circling Old Trafford as a sale of the club looks to be moving close.
In Spain, Real Madrid’s hopes of claiming this year’s LaLiga crown were further dented on Sunday night when they lost 2-1 to Barcelona.
Franck Kessie’s late winner moved the Catalan giants to 12 points clear at the top of the table, with Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in second place.
