Lionel Messi has been etched into the folklores of World Cup football for eternity, and seemingly into the back of one Argentina fan who may have got a tad over excited after their triumph
An over zealous Argentina supporter has seemingly got an enormous tattoo of Lionel Messi fans believe “looks like Wayne Rooney”.
Celebrations have certainly got out of hand ever since the Paris Saint-Germain ace captained the Argentines to their third World Cup. Millions of Argentina fans crammed into the streets of Buenos Aires, even causing the celebratory open top bus parade to be cut short.
But while there were some crazy examples of over passionate supporters, one Argentine fan has been getting the most attention for his crazy reaction to his country’s third World Cup triumph.
It appears one Argentine has proudly emblazoned his back with a tattoo of Messi holding the trophy. There will be many historic photographs of the little magician lifting the World Cup in the air just like Diego Maradona.
Yet, there may not be a worse version of those photos than the one inked onto the back of the fan. While the level of detail in Messi’s shirt, from the folds to the patterns of the kit, is nothing short of exceptional, the shape of Messi’s head is off to say the least.
His face is simultaneously wider and shorter, giving the 35-year-old a more compressed look. And supporters have certainly not held back in their criticism of the inkwork – though it has yet to be confirmed as a real photo.

“When the tattoo artist is a Brazil supporter,” wrote one supporter. “Looks like Messi in 2026 being 39 and overweight,” another added.
A third said: “He should go get his money back,” before a fourth drew on the likeness to the Manchester United legend by adding, “Looks like a combo of Messi and Rooney.”
It is currently unknown as to the level of satisfaction the fan had when the tattoo was all finished. One could possibly say the only positive from the tattoo is that he will not have to see it every day if it is on his back.
