When Ivan was on his way on the motorway, he saw a dog drowning in the frozen lake and without second thoughts, jumped in to save him!
It’s amazing, the things humans can do. On one hand we have people who torture animals and trouble them for their personal pleasures while on the other hand you have people who go to any extent to save animals. One such heart-warming story is that of Ivan from Russia.
When Ivan was on his way on the motorway, he came across a man with a broken car. While helping the man, his eyes fell on the lake that was partly frozen but what he saw stopped him. A dog had ventured on the thin ice and had fallen into the lake and was drowning. He was quite a bit away from the lake and could not make his way out.
Caught on camera: A warm-blooded man in Russia is being hailed a ‘hero’ for plunging into a frozen pond to save a drowning dog
Chilly: The thick-skinned swimmer, known only as Ivan, was filmed as he dragged the canine to shore
In safe hands: Footage shows the shirtless 21-year-old using his arms to smash through the ice and get to the dog which is stranded around ten meters away
Ivan saw the dog and without second thought jumped into the lake. He went in t-shirtless and used his hands to push the ice aside and make his way to the centre where the poor dog was stuck. He finally managed to get hold of the dog and holding him under the arm pulled him out. The entire incident was recorded and has won Ivan many fans. The dog ran away as soon as he reached the shore increasing hope that he did not suffer any damage except shock. Ivan too was lucky and managed to escape hypothermia. While the dog initially ran away, reports suggest that the two were later united.
New pet: According to the local Russian news channel m24.ru Ivan later adopted the dog and named him Rex
Best of friends: The duo appeared to be inseparable as they were filmed safe and dry at home
It is a heart warming story indeed and the man Ivan deserved a loud applause. Without thoughts for personal safety or any concern for himself, he selflessly jumped into a frozen lake just for a stray dog! In Russia, there are many such incidents where locals often jump into lakes to save their drowning pets and they themselves die from hypothermia. Also, at times, the currents below the frozen lake are too strong for them to tackle. Luckily for Ivan, he and the dog are both safe. Take a look at Ivan’s efforts here:
