When the Los Angeles Lakers started the 2022-23 NBA season with a 2-10 record, not many would have had them as a contender in the Western Conference.
Things have changed now though and Draymond Green believes they are a serious threat in the West.
“People can say what they want, talking heads can talk, they are a serious threat in the West right now,” Green said. “Talk about the record all you want, they’ve just got to get in. They get in, they’re a serious threat in the West.”
(starts at 1:07:11 mark):
A lot of the talking heads do seem to agree with Draymond though that the Lakers are a threat. They have gone 9-5 since the All-Star break and haven’t had LeBron James or D’Angelo Russell for quite a few of those games.
If this team makes the playoffs and is fully healthy, then they will be a major headache for whoever they face. Health is a real concern though as both LeBron and Anthony Davis have missed a significant amount of time this season. If one of those two does go down in the playoffs, then it is hard to see them making too much noise.
Anthony Davis Likes Their Chances Against Anybody
The Lakers players have always been confident that they will be able to turn their season around and that belief has gotten stronger post the break. Davis said he would like their chances against anybody in the playoffs and is clearly happy with the roster that they have assembled. Their mid-season acquisitions have had a very positive impact while the likes of Austin Reaves are really starting to shine as well. If their two stars are healthy and the role players keep playing this well, then this team could go quite far.
The Lakers are currently the 9th seed with a 36-37 record and are looking to finally get to .500 when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both Russell and LeBron are missing once again, so the onus is on Davis to deliver the goods.
