The playmaker for the Gunners, who is proud of his Turkish heritage, might disagree with Germany. He has been spotted driving an SLS AMG, S65 AMG, and a G-Wagen, showing that he still has a soft spot for German automobiles like Mercedes-Benz
MESUT OZIL found himself the target of armed thugs on the streets of North London on Thursday.
The Arsenal playmaker, along with team-mate Sead Kolasinac, was chased by knife-wielding attackers through the streets of the capital.
Thankfully the duo escaped unharmed from the terrifying ordeal.
But as details emerged of the frantic episode it was no surprise to hear that Ozil was at the wheel of a German car – a Mercedes G-Class SUV – with the superstar unable to resist their style and reliability.
Ozil, who loves celebrating his Turkish heritage, quit Germany’s national team when fans criticised him after he was pictured with Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
But although he’s at odds with his country’s football federation, he’s certainly supportive of their motor industry – boasting German-made Mercedes-Benz and Audis in his car collection.
Incredibly, Ozil has been seen behind the wheels of a SLS AMG, S65 AMG and a G-Wagen – that have a total worth of £500k.
SLS AMG, £165,030
A stunning two-door supercar, Ozil was seen cruising around London in an SLS AMG in 2014.
It’s capable of reaching 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 196 mph.
In making the SLS AMG, Mercedes-Benz consulted former Formula One ace David Coulthard to ensure its quality.
And petrolhead Jeremy Clarkson was certainly impressed when he drove it on Top Gear, calling it ‘the greatest car in the world.’
He added: “It’s more powerful than a Ferrari 458, louder than a Lamborghini, and it’s way more fun than the 911RS GT Turbo 3S or whatever this week’s ultimate Beetle (i.e., Porsche) is called. This is the thinking man’s supercar.”
Other notable SLS AMG owners include Patrice Evra, Arda Turan and Gareth Bale.
S65 AMG, £183,065
Powered by a twin-turbo charged 6.0-litre V12 engine with 621 brake horse power, you can bet Ozil would never be late for training when he’s driving this.
This spacious coupe can reach 62 mph in just 4.1 seconds and does it with sophistication thanks to its sleek look.
Unlike the SLS, it’s definitely not a speed demon – limited to a top speed of 155 mph.
But when you live in North London, Ozil won’t ever need to be going that fast anyway.
The former Real Madrid midfielder showed off his S65 AMG in 2016 on social media.
And he had a furry passenger with him in the shape of his Pug, Balboa who jumped in the front for a ride.
G63 AMG, £143,305
The G-Wagen is a definitive footballers’ favourite, with plenty of Premier League stars seen driving the SUV.
Raheem Sterling, David Luiz, and PFA Players’ Player of the Year Virgil Van Dijk are all fans of the comfortable G63 AMG.
And Ozil is no different. With a starting price of around £143k, it’s lucky the No10 earns £350k-per-week at the Emirates, because it’s pricey.
But you get what you pay for performance-wise, with opulent interiors matched with an unfathomable speed of 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Very impressive for a SUV.
It’s biggest competitor on the market is the Lamborghini Urus, but it beats the Range Rover hands down.
AUDIS
Maybe it was just coincidental that they’re German, but when Ozil played for Real Madrid he had German Audis including a Q7 and a RS5.
The La Liga giants have had a sponsorship deal with Audi since 2003, so it’s likely the cars were tied into that, but all the same.
The Q7, which has a starting price of £52,075, is one of the most popular motors they produce, and many Los Blancos stars have taken it for a spin.
The likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Isco have all been spied behind the wheel of this steady SUV.
During his time at the Bernabeu, Ozil also had a RS5, which has a starting price of £62,740.
Fast car-loving Karim Benzema also has that model, and is a huge fan.
And once Ozil was spied driving around North London in a fetching two-tone RS6. How ‘Ska’ of him.
FERRARI 458 ITALIA, £200k
When it comes to car collecting, you always need a showstopper.
Ozil’s car choices are sensible and fairly low-key in the norm, even if the price tags do make your eyes water.
But he does have room in his collection for a beautiful Ferrari 458 Italia, which he was first seen driving in Madrid in 2012.
With a top speed of 202 mph, the 458 is certainly no slouch. And it’s capable of hitting 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.4 seconds.
Other notable Ferrari 458 drivers include Mario ‘Why Always Me’ Balotelli and Man City goalie Ederson.

PORSCHE PANAMERA TURBO, £116,509
Ozil took his Porsche to modifiers TECHART, who basically gave it an incredible makeover – not that it was desperately in need of one.
They personalised the emblems on the car, adding his initials and squad number inside the Porsche sign.
As well as that, they boosted the motor’s engine to 630 horsepower, giving it a capability of reaching 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds.
It meant that his Panamera is more powerful than the Ferrari 458 Italia, making it his most impressive beast.
And he got it in a menacing grey matte finish, so it looks even more impressive.

Thanks to his £350-per-week salary, Ozil lives a life of luxury behind the wheel
