Their team doctor Morten Boesen has now confirmed in a statement that Eriksen will be fitted with a Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
Boesen said: “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter).
“This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.
“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.
“We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time.”
An ICD is a device, usually fitted in your chest, that helps people with dangerously irregular heart rhythms and checks your beat all the time.
Ajax defender Daley Blind had an ICD fitted in December 2019 after being diagnosed with an inflammation of his heart muscle.
The Dutchman considered withdrawing from Holland’s Euros opener after seeing his former team-mate and friend Eriksen collapse.
He told Dutch broadcaster NOS: “Yesterday had a huge impact on me.
“Besides the fact that I know Christian well as a friend, the situation for him is terrible.
“Of course I have also experienced a few things in that area, so that I had to overcome a mental hurdle to play.
“I had a lot of trouble with it, but I’m proud that I did it. Then all the emotion comes out for a while.
“I’ve definitely thought about not taking part. The images and the moment had a lot of impact and I didn’t sleep very well because of them.
“I really had to overcome a big hurdle to do this.”
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag provides fresh Christian Eriksen injury update
Erik ten Hag has confirmed Christian Eriksen is back on the pitch and undergoing individual training at Carrington as he continues to recover from injury.
Eriksen has been out of action since sustaining an ankle injury in the FA Cup win over Reading in January. The Dane was handed an initial prognosis of around three months, with his return looking on schedule for later this month.
Towards the end of March, the midfielder posted a an update on his progression with a picture of his foot in a protective boot and then a football boot, hinting that he was back in training. And now Ten Hag has confirmed he is undergoing a specific programme and that he hopes to have his midfielder back in group training shortly.
“Christian Eriksen is back on the pitch, not yet in the team training but I expect him in the coming week, [or] weeks, back in team training so will be available for games again,” the Dutchman told MUTV.
“So we know how big an impact Christian Eriksen had on our game, but also others, like Anthony Martial, are also returning in team training and [there were] no injuries, luckily, from the internationals.
“That’s always a concern as a manager when the players leave you, how you get them back and, especially, in this stage of the season when it comes to the end, to the final stage.”
United have nine games in April and Eriksen’s return at some point will prove crucial for midfield rotation, and speaking during the international break, the 31-year-old provided an update from his side.
“Yeah, it is going well,” he said. “I have just started being outside as you saw [on Instagram] with football boots on. And then we take it from there, that is the next step. I have been in the gym for some weeks now and now it is time to do the next rehab session outside.”
