Dua Lipa has revealed that she is determined women should share the same confidence and pride in herself that she has while performing, as she reflected on the rejections she’s faced throughout her career.
The singer, 27, told The Su: ‘As women, we have been oppressed on how you are supposed to look or be.
‘We have been pushed down for too long to truly feel who we really are and explore the sexual and feminine side of ourselves.’

Pop star Dua has achieved huge success in music, having recently finished a world tour and having worked with big names including Miley Cyrus and Sir Elton John in the past.
However, she insists girls still face discrimination in the record industry, saying of a woman’s position in her field: ‘Maybe it has been looked down on.
‘We are building our own castles but not necessarily getting the recognition we deserve.’

Dua, who was granted Albanian citizenship this week, was born in the UK in 1995 to Kosovar-Albanian parents and they returned briefly during her teenage years.
And she said she battled rejection when she was younger, recalling the time she was left disappointed when she wasn’t accepted for a London stage school.
The award-winning star said she appealed the decision but was turned down again but despite being able to sing and play the cello, she did not succeed.
She started weekend singing classes at the the Sylvia Young Theatre School which has produced a plethora of stars including Spice Girl Emma Bunton, pop star and actress Billie Piper, the late Amy Winehouse and television presenter Denise Van Outen amongst many others.

And she rose to fame after she was discovered when she posted videos of herself singing on YouTube, encouraged by her father Dukagjin.
She said: ‘Those moments of getting turned down push you to make the leap.’
Dua released her self-titled debut record in 2017 as well as the BRIT Award-winning Future Nostalgia in 2020.
And she insists her new music will be ‘very different’ to her previous albums.
She explained that when she was speaking to Sir Elton John for an interview in March she thought she was ‘halfway done’ with her third album but things have since taken a new direction.
She said: ‘Well when I was speaking to Elton I really felt like I was halfway done. But it’s taken a complete turn as I’ve carried on working, and I really feel now that it’s starting to sound cohesive. So I’m going to keep writing in the early months of the new year and see where that takes me. The album is different — it’s still pop but it’s different sonically, and there’s more of a lyrical theme.’
However, the Cold Heart hitmaker remained coy about giving any details away about the upcoming album and explained that even revealing the title would spoil the surprise.
She told Variety: ‘If I told you the title, everything would make sense — but I think we’ll just have to wait!’
