With a convincing victory over the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers have clinched a winning record for this campaign. Even though the Suns were without Kevin Durant for this game, the Lakers still managed to win as a team, which will be encouraging for the organization. And after the Lakers had scored more than 120 points, LeBron James gave reporters an explanation of what makes their offense so effective.
“Well, I mean, there’s nobody that they can really just key on,” James said. “They can’t just key on AD. They can’t just key on me. When you have Beas [ Malik Beasley] shooting the way he was shooting tonight. You got D-Lo shooting the ball at a high rate. You got AR, who’s been playing exceptionally all season. Just keeps the defense always at bay.”
While neither LeBron James nor Anthony Davis scored more than 20 points, all three of Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Malik Beasley did so. This win made sure the Los Angeles Lakers are the only team in NBA history to finish a season with a winning record after starting 2-10. And fans are feeling optimistic about the team’s chances for the playoffs too.
Anthony Davis Highlighted The Lakers’ Depth After Suns Win As Well
Anthony Davis has come into his own again this season, he has been a big contributor to the Lakers’ late-season turnaround. Although he didn’t dominate scoring against the Suns, he was also quick to praise his teammates and the depth of the Lakers after the fame.
“We’re not going to always shoot the ball well,” Davis claimed, as per Heavy. “Bron struggled tonight, I struggled tonight shooting the ball. But we have a complete team. Beas [Michael Beasley] shot the ball pretty well. D-LO, Troy, Austin Reaves. The depth on our team is really strong where Bron has 16, I had 14, and we were still able to get a very convincing win.”
The Lakers are half a game behind the Los Angeles Clippers after this latest win, with the Clippers still having two more games to play. If they lose both and the Lakers win their last one, automatic qualification is still on the cards for them. It has been a long and tough road for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, but they have addressed their needs and could well be on their way to a deep playoff run as well.
