Emma Watson first started acting at the age of 11, but the Harry Potter actress has admitted that despite 14 years in the movie industry she still feels like an “imposter”.

The 25 year-old, who is set to star in the live action re-boot of Beauty and the Beast, opened up about her insecurities during her cover interview for British Vogue ‘s September issue.

It is only the second time she’s featured on the cover of the iconic magazine, the first being in 2010. Shot by photographer Josh Ollins, the actress wears a delicate white and gold jacquard dress by Stella McCartney, with her brown locks lightly pulled back.

Finding fame as Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter series might have made her an overnight star, but Emma admitted as she’s grown older, she’s become more self conscious of her acting abilitiy.

“It’s something I’ve really wrestled with,” she said, “I’ve gone back and I’ve quizzed my parents. When I was younger, I just did it. I just acted. It was just there. . . . It was just something I did.”

“[N]ow when I receive recognition for my acting, I feel incredibly uncomfortable. I tend to turn in on myself,” she went on. “I feel like an imposter.”

While acting might be something she’s struggled with, her work as a UN Goodwill Ambassador comes more naturally. Last September the actress launched the HeForShe gender equality crusade in front of the United Nations in New York. Her passionate speech, urging men to support campaign for equality, went viral around the world and saw the actress roundly praised for her brave and candid words.

“I was in my hotel room, thinking, I can’t do this. I was just terrified,” she confessed.

Luckily she did as the campaign has received widespread support, including from the likes of US President Barack Obama.

“Everything clicked into place, in a way that it hadn’t before,” she said of the campaign.

“I understood what I’m here to do and knew where to channel all this energy that has been coming at me. I now feel this sense of peace”

“People say that I’m different since I did it.”

The full issue of Vogue will be available on August 6th.
