The Cross Guild’s bounty system is a little different than the World Government’s. Here’s how it works.
One Piece is currently in its final saga, and there are many big-name pirates vying to come out on top. While most of them have been trying to fight on their own, some of them have taken a clever approach and formed alliances. After the Onigashima War concluded, it was revealed that Crocodile and Mihawk, two of the biggest names in the world of One Piece, had formed an organization called the Cross Guild. The organization was immediately recognized as a threat by the Marines, and they tried their best to break it up before it could start operating.
However, the former Shichibukai made short work of the forces that they sent to capture them. The Cross Guild gained an unexpected ally when Buggy’s underlings made posters that portrayed him as the boss of the organization. The posters were circulated throughout the world, and they caused a lot of misconceptions. Mihawk and Crocodile were not pleased with this development but decided to let the misconception continue to make Buggy take the brunt of all the action.
What Is The Organization For?
The Cross Guild was created with the goal of hunting Marines, and giving pirates some kind of leverage against them. The Cross Guild has incredibly powerful members, but they do not have the same numbers as the Marines. The Marines can effortlessly overwhelm and destroy the Cross Guild with their sheer numbers. So, they had to devise a way to turn the tables.
The Cross Guild decided to create their own bounty system to counter that of the Marines. The idea of placing bounties on Marines is simple yet very smart. It is definitely true that a single pirate crew cannot take down the entire organization, but the pirates outnumber the Marines by quite a margin. In Chapter 1080, it was revealed that the pirates on Hachinosu were hounding Koby because of his bounty. Koby’s bounty poster had five stars, and each star represented 100 million berries. So, his bounty is 500 million berries. According to the pirates, Marine captains usually have a bounty of 100 million berries, but Koby is an exception. This is because of his reputation as a “hero” and his involvement in the Rocky Port Incident. Seeing so many pirates chasing Koby was truly fascinating, as it is usually the opposite.
Who Will Have The Highest Bounty?
It is pretty obvious that all the Marines have been assigned bounties, but not all of them have the same bounty. The bounty is assigned based on their ranks and achievements. As previously stated, a regular Marine captain has roughly a bounty of 100 million berries, or one star, so everyone above that rank will automatically have a higher bounty. There are a total of five ranks above captain, and these are Commodore, Rear Admiral, Vice-Admiral, Admiral, and Fleet Admiral. It would make sense that the bounty increases by one star or by 100 million. However, this would mean that the ranks that fall below that of the captain either have no bounty or that the Cross Guild has a different star/ranking system for them.
If the lower-ranked Marines don’t have a bounty at all, that means the Cross Guild is only targeting the strong Marines. This makes sense, as in the long run, the small fry won’t matter. Also, there is no information about the maximum number of stars that a Marine can get. Keeping in mind that someone like Koby has five stars, there is a high chance that the stars go beyond five. The Yonko have bounties in the billions, so it is fair to assume that the more powerful Marines have at least ten stars on their bounty posters. Characters like Monkey D. Garp, Akainu, and the three Admirals are all in contention to have the highest bounties. Garp’s past achievements make him the easiest choice for having the highest bounty, but it could be low due to his limited involvement in the story. On the other hand, Akainu has been actively involved in many big events since the time skip. He is known for being ruthless toward pirates, making him a strong contender for the highest bounty. The Admirals shouldn’t be too far behind either.
Impact Of The Cross Guild
The Cross Guild might have started operating under weird circumstances, but it has the potential to become one of the mightiest organizations in One Piece. It can bring about the downfall of the Marines, which will have far-reaching effects. The Cross Guild alone cannot defeat them, but they have provided other pirates, bounty hunters, and other criminals with incentives to get rid of the Marines.
With a smart mind like Crocodile as one of its heads, the Cross Guild is bound to flourish unless it is broken up for some odd reason. Crocodile has proven himself as one of the smartest characters in the series, and his meticulous planning can cause a lot of trouble for the Marines. The Cross Guild has not been involved in the recent chapters, but they undoubtedly have a big role to play in the final saga of One Piece.
