Four-time World boxing champion Carl Froch is set to play himself alongside Jason Statham in a London-based action movie.
The former WBA super-middleweight champ, who hung up his gloves in 2014, revealed he is reading a script for upcoming film Once Upon a Time In London.
Froch, 38, announced last year he would pursue acting.
Speaking on Radio 5 Live’s sports panel today, he said said he had been keeping busy with punditry but was ready to embark on his acting career.
He said: “I’m going to have a couple of having acting lessons – I’ve had two meetings with a guy who tells you how to relax in front of the camera but I’m quite relaxed anyway after all the interviews and conferences before and after fights.”
Once Upon A Time in London is still in its early stages, with actor Terry Stone’s London-based Gateway Films producing,
“Jason Statham’s being looked at for a three-part series – he’s a bit of a hard man and he needs a wingman,” said Froch.
“It’s about crime in London and there’s terrorists going off and he’s tackling it through the Metropolitan Police.
“I’ve been reading the script this morning.”
Froch, who has 33 wins from 35 fights, last competed when he knocked out George Groves at Wembley Stadium
The Nottingham-born star has since appeared on BBC gymnastics show Tumble and has worked for Sky Sports as a boxing pundit.
His potential stage partner Jason Statham, 48, is a former Team GB diver best known for his roles in the Guy Ritchie crime films Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and Revolver.
This is not the first time Statham would act with a boxer after Irish former middleweight champion Steve Collins took a minor part in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Other athletes who have made the transition into acting include boxer Mike Tyson, who played a cameo role in The Hangover, and footballer Vinnie Jones.
Gateway Films has been approached for comment.
