Scarlett Johansson was taken on a trip down memory lane as she was quizzed about her first husband Ryan Reynolds, when speaking to Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast this week.
The 38-year-old Black Widow star couldn’t contain her giggles as Gwyneth, 50, said she had forgotten all about the star’s marriage to the Deadpool hunk – who is now married to Blake Lively.
Ryan, 46, and Scarlett were married for two years after tying the knot in 2008 and then divorcing in 2011. She later admitted she ‘didn’t really have an understanding of marriage’ at the time as she was only 23.
‘You’ve been married two times? Three times?’ Gwyneth asked Scarlett, who confirmed it was the latter.
Gwyneth then gushed excitedly: ‘Oh that’s right! I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!’
Giggling in the background, Scarlett responded: ‘Yes! We weren’t married very long….’ as Gwyneth chimed in, ‘It still counts!’
‘We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our home,’ Gwyneth continued, as Scarlett’s famously husky voice continued to laugh, and she wrapped the topic up by saying: ‘He’s a good guy!’
She then spoke about her current husband, actor Colin Jost, giving insight into what makes it work.
‘I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from somebody else,’ Scarlett said.
‘I never realized, “Oh, it’s really important for me – I need to be with a compassionate person.”
‘That’s a fundamental characteristic that has to be there,’ she revealed about her relationship.
Third husband: Scarlett also opened up about her marriage to actor Colin Jost , giving insight into what makes it work
On the podcast, Johansson added, ‘I think that understanding what those fundamental things are that you need in a partner is a must, I think — for longevity, anyway.’
Loosley referencing her past relationships, the beauty said: ‘I think identifying those things was a game-changer for me.’
Scarlett and her husband Colin, 40, tied the knot in October 2020.
The longtime entertainer was previously married to Ryan from 2008-2011, and later to Romain Dauriac from 2014-2017.
The New York City native is mom to two children – daughter Rose, 8, with Dauriac, and son Cosmo, 20 months, with Jost.
She said that with her current husband she ‘was finally able to step back and actually respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental] things were and be okay with it, you know? That was a life lesson.’
The two Hollywood fixtures also touched on their professional lives during the chat.
Scarlett opened up about the business as she admitted, ‘[There’s] always that fear, I think, as an actor, where you think, “Oh, I’m not gonna work after this.”‘
Opening up: The 38-year-old Marriage Story star appeared on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast this week, where she dished on her relationship
Paltrow agreed as she responded, ‘Doesn’t everybody feel that every time anyway? It’s just like, you never know what’s coming!’
And talking about social media, the Lucy star said about Instagram: ‘I just feel that it’s fundamentally not me.
‘I have to protect myself,’ she explained. ‘I’m too sensitive.’
Johansson doubled down on comments she made about the app earlier this month while on the Skinny Confidential podcast.
Past love: The bombshell was married to Romain Dauriac from 2014-2017
She noted at the time: ‘I honestly am too fragile of a person to have social media.
‘My ego is too fragile. I can’t deal with it. My brain is too fragile. I’m like a delicate flower. I have enough anxiety.’
Scarlett described the experience of once using the photo-sharing platform for three days.
‘When I started realizing that I’d spent 20 minutes looking at somebody’s Instagram page who worked for a friend of mine — I now know you have a pit bull, two daughters, and live in Burbank — I was like, I just wasted 17 minutes of time.
‘I now feel like I should move to California, get this specific dog and change my life in all these ways,’ she recalled.
‘I felt so bad, like I was missing out on this random person’s life. I can’t do this. I’m too fragile; I have so much anxiety about other things.’
