Scarlett Johansson was left embarrassed after nude photos of the star were leaked online last year.
And in an interview that accompanies a stunning photoshoot by Princess Diana’s favourite photographer Mario Testino, Scarlett Johansson admits that the scandal left her somewhat paranoid.
The intimate photographs, intended for Reynolds, went viral on the Internet and the actress was forced to call in the authorities.
Old school glamour: A candid Scarlett Johansson finally opens up about her relationship with Sean Penn and divorce from Ryan Reynolds as she posed for a stunning old Hollywood style shoot
She said: ‘When all those photos came out, of course I go out to dinner and think, Goddamn it, these people have all seen my…
‘That’s terrible. You know what I mean? You can’t not think that. Even if they haven’t, you’re paranoid.’
But she insists she doesn’t want ‘pity’, or want to be a victim.
‘It wasn’t just me. It was others. I don’t want to be a victim and say, ‘Oh, well’ and just hide my head in shame. Somebody stole something from me. . . . It’s sick. I don’t want people like that to slide.’
Johansson gave a surprisingly candid interview, speaking about all aspects of her love life past and present.
She opened up about her unlikely relationship with actor Sean Penn last year, who was 24 years her senior, shared her pain over her divorce with Hollywood hunk Ryan Reynolds, and gushed about new man, advertising executive Nate Naylor.
Kicking up her heels: Scarlett spoke about her loves past and present
As she graced the cover of Vogue, the 38-year-old said of Sean, 61: ‘We spent time together, yeah. I never put a title on it, really, but we were seeing each other.
‘He’s a remarkable person. He really is.’
Scarlett said there was intense fuss over the relationship which ‘was a little bit of an adjustment’ as she endured relative privacy while married to Ryan for two years from September 2008.
‘We always kept our story private—how we met, our wedding, everything. It was about us.’
She said that in the summer of 2010 she took a road trip around Europe with Ryan, after he’d filmed Green Lantern, which started the downfall of their marriage.
Scarlett had just finished filming Iron man 2 alongside Robert Downey, Jr. and knew The Avengers was coming later, but she said she took a long time hunting for her next film.
‘It was nice, but at the same time, I was like “What am I going to do with myself?” I don’t know. I was waiting. [It was] a hard time . . . I was feeling very out of my own skin.
Past loves: Scarlett, 38, with her ex-boyfriend Sean Penn, 61, last year, and her ex-husband, actor Ryan Reynolds in 2022
‘[The divorce] was horrible. Of course it’s horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn’t work out.
‘This was something I never thought I would be doing. And there’s no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It’s never anything you want to hear. It’s a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some way.’
But she said she had no regrets about the marriage.
‘It was a beautiful thing. The falling in love and getting married and making that commitment.. I think it’s nice to know that you’re capable of loving somebody in that way. I think it’s a rare opportunity.
‘I don’t feel on the other side of it completely, but it gets better,’ she said. ‘It’s still there. More than anything, it’s just that not having your buddy around all the time is weird. There’s no rule book. I think it’s just time.’

Outspoken: Scarlett Johansson graced the cover of Vogue, talking about her divorce with Ryan Reynolds and her new relationship with Nate Naylor
She described the couple’s split as ‘comically amicable’
Headlines appeared in December 2010 that the couple had split and they released a brief statement saying: ‘We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”
Scarlett said she wished she had spent more time with Ryan, getting to know one another without having the pressure of their two careers.
The actress recovered while filming Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo, in which she played a zookeeper at a run-down animal park.
The film was shot outside in the hills of Thousand Oaks, California, and Scarlett described the experience as ‘blissful . . . like some hippie dream’.
She has been dating New York–based advertising creative director Nate Naylor; who she says must be feeling strange about being chased by the papparazzi all of a sudden, but he had been ‘remarkably good’ about it.
