Prominent social media presenter Mark Goldbridge says he does not want to see Wout Weghorst play another game for Manchester United.
The Dutchman was restored to the starting lineup by Erik ten Hag to take on West Ham, having not featured from the beginning since United’s 2-0 defeat to fellow top four chasers Newcastle on April 2.
It wasn’t a successful return for the 30-year-old, however, as he lasted 57 minutes before being replaced by Anthony Martial.
And United again failed to score for the second consecutive game, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat that places more pressure on the side in their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
Weghorst is currently on loan at the club from Burnley, and while he was praised for his off-the-ball movement and hold-up play in his opening months at Old Trafford, he has struggled to make an impact in recent weeks.
The Manchester Evening News reported at the beginning of May that United were not planning on making his deal permanent at the end of the season.
And Goldbridge has given his rather strong view on Weghorst’s position at United.
Goldbridge on Weghorst
Speaking on The United Stand about what Ten Hag needs to change ahead of the side’s final four games, Goldbridge said: “Never pick Weghorst again. Just never pick him again.
“Nice guy – if we’re willing 4-0 in the final game of the season against Fulham, get him on for 10 minutes so the crowd can give him some applause and say thank you.
“But never pick him again.”
The Dutch striker has five more games in which he could feature for United before the end of his loan spell, with Ten Hag’s side contesting the FA Cup final against Manchester City as well as four more Premier League fixtures.
With two goals to his name – and none since March 9 – during his loan spell, Weghorst will hope to add to his tally before his anticipated return to Turf Moor.
