Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked the final adventure of the MCU team with many emotional moments, and Vin Diesel comments on Groot’s big scene.
Vin Diesel opens up about Groot’s heartfelt Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 scene. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the perfect trilogy finale for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s cosmic team. The movie features a heavy emotional core, as the Guardians must rush across the galaxy to save Rocket’s life, which puts the team on a collision course with Rocket’s creator, the evil High Evolutionary. By the end of the film, the Guardians succeed in their mission but decide to part ways. At that moment, Groot seemingly speaks English, saying, “I love you guys,” and Gunn confirmed the scene was about the audience finally understanding Groot.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Diesel shared his thoughts on Groot’s emotional scene before the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 post-credits scenes came up.
The actor reinforced Gunn’s explanation for the moment, speaking about how the audience was finally able to understand Groot’s language by the movie’s ending. Diesel notes the “ten years of loyalty” that led to that moment, with the audience’s “patience and dedication” to the franchise being paid off at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Check out the full quote below:
“You know, just… on that front, it was very cool because it meant that the audience is now able to understand the vernacular, the language of this Flora colossus, and that’s a testament to the ten years of loyalty which we’ve been so blessed with in this franchise with the Groot character and patience to have people wait that long for somebody saying three words. But, like everything alive, with patience and dedication.”
What To Expect From Groot’s MCU Future
Groot was not one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s deaths, with no member of the Guardians dying this time around. While most members of the team left to pursue their own adventures or settle down, Groot decided to stay on as part of Rocket’s new Guardians of the Galaxy team. The move makes a lot of sense, as both versions of Groot have been inseparable from Rocket since they were introduced in the MCU.
Rocket’s new Guardians of the Galaxy team includes Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo the Spacedog, Phyla, and Adam Warlock — with his pet Blurp in tow. The new version of the cosmic team assembled during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s first post-credits scene, with Gunn confirming he was responsible for choosing the members that would be part of the new Guardians of the Galaxy team. There might be no fourth movie planned on the horizon, but the new Guardians of the Galaxy team will likely return in the MCU.
Just like the original Guardians of the Galaxy team did during Avengers: Infinity War, it is possible that the new team will meet up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to help save the multiverse, not just the galaxy, in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The film will likely have the Avengers — and whatever heroes join them — fighting to save the multiverse from the evil Council of Kangs. The multiverse team of Kang variants is a big enough threat that would require the Avengers and the new team at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to combine their forces to save the day.
