Chelsea have had a deal in place to sign attacker Christopher Nkunku since pretty much the end of last summer, and their struggles to score goals this season have made it even more imperative to sort out our issues up top.
Unfortunately the France star missed the World Cup – and the whole middle part of the season – with an injury, so we haven’t seen as much of him as we’d like.
But he’s worked his way back to form in these last few months, and today he crowned his return to the top by helping his team RB Leipzig blow the Bundesliga title race wide open by scoring as they beat Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich 3-1.
Ironically it was Tuchel who was our coach when we agreed to sign Nkunku – and now the forward is sinking our former manager’s season.
The injury looks to have had no ill effects on Nkunku, who has all his speed and sharpness still in buckets. He’s got a brilliant 25 goal appearances in 27 starts this season, a Lionel Messi-like record.
If he’s even half that good in the Premier League, he would be our star player.
