James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water the highly anticipated sequel of Avatar is said to have broken a record of Tom Cruise for the longest period of time for breath-holding under water.
The previous record held by Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in the movie Mission: Impossible 5 was of 6 minutes and Kate Winslet’s Ronal crushed the record with a record time of 7 minutes and 14 seconds. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Winslet shared that it felt “amazing” to have held her breath for so long.

Kate Winslet plays the role of Ronal in Avatar: The Way of Water, the matriarchal leader of the oceanic pandora tribe – the Metkayina. She is a seasoned warrior of the Metkayina and also a healer. Though being a healer she does not have any pity for the prisoners in conflict while she bears a child in her.
James Cameron has highlighted that the Na’vi are intended to be inspired and pay homage to Indigenous cultures which has a delicate and a diverse role. Winslet portrayed the role of Ronal perfectly to the point that Cameron himself applauded her for it and has shared with Entertainment Weekly that Kate Winslet “blew everyone away” with her breathing pause.
The Avatar actress shared with the media about the record:
“I mean, I don’t know Tom at all – I’ve never met him in my life – but I’m sure he’s getting very fed up of hearing this story of how I broke his record,” she joked. “I loved it, though… I was amazed how good I was at it and how I just kept getting better.”

In the most anticipated sequels of the decade, James Cameron seems to have gone above and beyond with the production of Avatar: The Way of Water. However, he was not very impressed with the Titanic actress for her record-breaking breath-holding as he said that though it was not easy, she did not have to do her stunts simultaneously while doing her breath underwater.
In an interview with Deadline the Titanic director explained why he was not particularly impressed with the record though it was a delicate business, Winslet was not engaged in any sort of physical activity and referred her to be in a “zen” like state whilst in Rogue Nation Tom Cruise had to perform his own stunts while holding his breath for 6 minutes.
