Chelsea are ‘speaking’ to Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro’s agent ahead of a potential move to the Premier League, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
The Spaniard made the initial switch to the Primeira Liga on loan from Manchester City back in 2020 but made his deal permanent last summer where his impressive performances this season have gained him a couple of admirers.
The Blues and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly both targeting a move for the right-back this month, though Sporting boss Ruben Amorim admitted that he would only be allowed to leave should potential suitors pay his €45m (£40m) release clause.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Phillips shared a significant update regarding Chelsea’s pursuit of Porro, but claimed that there are other candidates that the club are also considering in the same position.
“On Pedro Porro, again they’re speaking to his agent to see if a move would be viable this month.
“Jeremie Frimpong is another one that’s up there. I’ve not had anything on Denzel Dumfries yet, but he’s another one that they’ve looked at.
“Those three are the main ones I’d say and the key right-backs they’re looking at to add some competition for Reece James.”
Reece James is currently ruled out of action with a knee injury, but even when he returns, Porro would provide an excellent alternative to the England international.
The Don Benito native is an attacking full-back who loves to get down the flank and put crosses into the box, which is shown in his numbers having recorded ten assists and even scored two goals himself already this term (Transfermarkt).
Porro has been described as a ‘special talent’ by Zach Lowy, and Todd Boehly cashing out on him should the opportunity arise is surely a no-brainer of a decision to make.
[DON’T MISS] Club have final condition before they ‘announce’ player’s move to Chelsea – Contract issue to be resolved
As the Spanish media continues to bring more details on Chelsea’s advanced negotiations with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of João Félix, we now see Marca claiming there’s a final condition for the transfer to be completed.
According to the outlet, the Colchoneros want the player to sign a new contract before the move.
Félix’s deal with Atlético Madrid runs until 2026, and both parties are well protected with that. The problem is that the La Liga side want a one-year extension just so it results in an ‘annual amortisation’ and the €127m paid to sign him looks better on their financial books.
The 23-year-old is joining the Blues on a loan deal and is said to be ready for the transfer. To meet ‘the player’s wish,’ the Colchoneros will let him move and avoid any kind of dressing room problems at the club.
Marca says that if that issue is sorted, then they can ‘announce’ the transfer, with Félix joining Chelsea on loan until the 30th of June. That story, including the request for the contract extension, is backed up by AS.
