The Iron Man actor’s wife, Susan Downey, is a well-known American film producer who, up until 2009, served as a co-president of Dark Castle Entertainment. She also used to be the Executive Vice President of Production at Joel Silver’s film production company. Silver also happens to be one of the producers of Gothika, the 2003 horror film on the set of which, Downey Jr. first crossed paths with the woman who is today his wife.
How Did Robert Downey Jr. Fall in Love With Susan Downey?
Back in 2003, Robert Downey Jr. was one of the lead stars in Mathieu Kassovitz’s Gothika, where he met Susan (then Susan Levin) for the first time. The latter was representing Silver Pictures, the production company through which the movie was being produced. Surprisingly enough though, the pair’s romance didn’t kick off right from the beginning. As a matter of fact, Downey Jr. had to ask Susan out 3 times before she finally agreed to give it a whirl.
Susan was initially uncertain about dating the Sherlock Holmes star but gradually the chemistry between the two started to stir up and in no time, the pair ended up getting engaged! In just a few months after they started dating, Downey Jr. proposed to the 49-year-old right before her 30th birthday. Yeah, they’ve been married for almost 17 years now. Let that sink in.

A couple of years after Team Downey was formed, the Tropic Thunder actor and his wife welcomed their first child in 2012. They named their son Exton Elias Downey. Two years later in 2014, the couple announced that they were expecting a daughter soon, and later that year, Susan gave birth to their second child who they named Avri Roel Downey.
