WWE fans are desperate for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to have one last run with the company before he hangs up the boots for good.
Johnson is wrestling’s most successful export ever having swapped the top rope for the top of Forbes’ highest paid actors list.
WWE3Rock and Roman Reigns has been a dream match for fans for years now
WWE3The Rock’s last WWE appearance came at SmackDown’s debut on FOX
The 50-year-old was among the chief driving forces behind WWE’s most successful period – the Attitude Era – in the 1990s.
But aside from a programme with John Cena through WrestleMania 28 and WrestleMania 29, The Rock has only made sporadic appearances in WWE since heading to Hollywood in 2004.
Now there is hope that Johnson could be back for one final run leading up to the main event of WrestleMania 39 in April.
For that to be anything other than a cameo, the Black Adam actor would likely need to show up at the Royal Rumble later this month.
Is The Rock returning at the Royal Rumble?
As of yet, there has been no official confirmation that Johnson will be appearing at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas for the Rumble.
The People’s Champion’s last appearance for WWE came back in October 2019 for the 20th Anniversary episode of SmackDown.
WWE’s tagline for the Showcase of the Immortals is fittingly ‘WrestleMania Goes Hollywood’ so a Rocky showing seems likely.
The Great One hasn’t put the famous tights on since WrestleMania 32, when he squashed Erick Rowan in seconds.
Yet the man himself has teased a showdown with current and longest-reigning WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
The pair don’t share the same blood, but they belong to the same famous wrestling Anoa’i family and refer to each other as cousins.
As of yet, Reigns is scheduled to defend his title against Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble.
And an interference from The Rock makes the most sense if they were to eventually face off at ‘Mania, with the Rumble the only major WWE event scheduled before then.
3Rock is also cousins with Roman Reigns
Speaking in 2021, Reigns admitted he had earmarked WrestleMania’s Hollywood invasion as an opportunity to battle the Rock.
He told Fox Sports: “We’ll go to Hollywood for WrestleMania 39, and I think it just makes sense.”
Reigns then added: “He’s the biggest box office attraction for the big screen.
“So, to be able to take that and match it up with the biggest box office attraction in sports entertainment.
“I think some magic would be made.”
